Pooja
IT is the link to every department at Noble.
Pooja was a long way from home when she joined Noble in early 2017. She wanted a challenging opportunity that was deeply rooted in technology having studied electronics and telecommunications as an undergrad at the University of Mumbai.
Working for Noble’s IT department was a natural progression following Pooja’s journey to the U.S. to earn a master’s degree in Information Systems from Northeastern University. She got that dream job and a lot more in the Noble IT department. Pooja discovered a business culture much to her liking and the chance to build relationships with her co-workers that helped her feel not so far away from home and family.
From the start at Noble, Pooja recognized that technology is the backbone of the business. Each day, Pooja seeks to uncover hidden golden nuggets of business intelligence by analyzing vast data stores. She is Noble’s resident Tableau expert. Tableau is a data analytics platform that helps users quickly and effectively harness the power of their data. Unlocking insights is Pooja’s objective as a business intelligence analyst. She helped the CEO, CFO and senior management at Noble team realize the benefits of analytics with Tableau.
“I believe our IT team lives at the center of the company,” says Pooja. “I get to work across each department which has helped me learn how the departments work and how the business operates.”
Requests for data analytics support hit Pooja’s desk each day. She feels one of the most critical responsibilities of her job in Business Intelligence is to provide insights rapidly. Mastering tools like Tableau helps her respond in hours for small queries and as quickly as two weeks for more complex projects.
Recently, Pooja helped the marketing department at Noble measure the effectiveness of emails notifying customers of new product offerings. She created a report that measures the effect of marketing events on item sales by tracking pre- and post-marketing event sales for a selected product. This report allows marketing colleagues to measure the effectiveness of each activity and graph sales over time for each campaign. With her report, the marketing department was able to validate contributions to sales with a data-driven approach.
Pooja asserts, “Every department is different.” In another assignment, she helped her own IT department become more ‘agile.’ Pooja initiated weekly stand-ups to facilitate cross-team communications. The team discussed new tools to boost productivity and accelerate outcomes from IT projects.
Pooja feels the Noble culture supports her desire to figure things out on her own. But, she knows that if help is needed, everyone is willing to provide guidance, answer her questions or point her in the right direction. Pooja likes exploring, whether at work or at home. She enjoys cooking which for her is a process of discovery. She seeks out new cuisines, an interesting new recipe or unusual ingredients. It’s part of Pooja’s nature to want to dig deep for something special.
Pooja knows business intelligence is at the center of the action. Every order placed by a customer can tell a story, and each department at Noble depends on a skilled BI team to answer essential questions for them. Since her first project working with the customer service department, Pooja has gained an understanding step by step of how things work. “This is perhaps the most important lesson I’ve learned,” said Pooja.
Pooja also enjoys participating in sports. She likes badminton, enjoys being a team player and sees a parallel to her responsibilities at Noble. Once she begins a project, Pooja feels it’s her baby, and she is committed to the team effort.
“It’s all about teamwork here.” Pooja recognizes that close bonds with coworkers can help minimize the distance from home and family.
