Course Description

First Responder Offensive employs the HazMatIQ Above the Line/Below the Line System to instruct those who are the initial arrivals at a scene on assessing whether it is safe to enter the HotZone. The training will encompass fundamental chemical and physical properties, as well as the utilization of the Stay Alive Five equipment (SAFe) Kit, which includes tools such as LEL meters, F and pH papers, Thermal Imaging Cameras, and radiation pagers. This knowledge equips responders to make informed decisions on whether to proceed with rescue efforts or recon (GO) or to evacuate the area (GET OUT) based on the identified risks.

First Detection and Monitoring: FRO builds upon the equipment introduced in our First Responder Offensive (FRO) program, specifically the Stay Alive Five equipment (SAFe Kit). This course delves into the fundamental principles governing the functionality of these instruments and papers, explaining how and why they operate, why they can detect specific hazards, and the significance of the numbers and indicators they generate. This crucial information empowers responders to assess whether they can safely continue their work in a hazardous environment and, more significantly, enables them to determine if it’s feasible to attempt a rescue in the event of exposure or contamination.
